If I had a spirit animal, it would be Sweet Nothings NYC. Her blog is a haven of warmth, compassion, beautiful photos and damn good writing. So it’s no surprise that when we chatted about doing a joint review, I was all in. Luckily, we also were interested in the same thing: one of the Sugar Candy Babydolls from the new Soda Shop collection by Dottie’s Delights. I had gotten one of the Short Sheer Dressing Robes in mint for my birthday back in November, so I was eager to have a babydoll to pair with it.
I bought these pieces assuming they’d be great hot weather loungewear and sleepwear. While I’m still glad I bought them, they didn’t quite work out the way I’d planned! While the nylon is buttery soft and wonderfully soothing, it does trap heat. They worked beautifully earlier in the spring, but are definitely to warm for the “dear god, we’re trapped in a heat pit” portion of summer in New Orleans.
I purchased a size 2 in the robe (the size for those with broader shoulders/fuller busts) and a size XL/XXL in the babydoll. These are the same sizes Sweet Nothings is wearing in her review, so you can see they fit a wide range of body types and heights. Interestingly enough, our one minor complaint was the same: the sleeves of the babydoll feel a wee bit tight. I’d love to see the equivalent of the size 2 robe be added to the babydoll lineup, although you could also ask for custom if you wanted to.
As you can see, these are completely sheer. I’m wearing the fabulously useful Glamour Set by Elila underneath, which is definitely my MVP lingerie set this year. If you don’t love really seeing your body, these pieces may feel weird for you. They definitely feel a little weird for me, although I have lots of sheer mesh lingerie I sleep in during the summer.
The ruffles on these pieces are exquisite and remind me of delicious cakes! The set together feels amazingly luxurious, from the drape to the trims. It is delicate – I wear a lot of “delicate” lingerie around the house with two dogs, but I wouldn’t do that with this set. It’s definitely meant for easy lounging or for boudoir shoots, but might rip easily if you weren’t careful.
If you’re looking for a sugary sweet loungewear set, you really can’t go wrong with these two pieces. I’m not sure I’ll be sporting it in the crazy summer heat, but it’ll definitely be worn and loved once cooler weather hits.
What do you think of these pieces? Have you tried the Soda Shop collection yet?
